Description
Commonly known as the cork oak tree, this is a medium-sized evergreen oak native to the Mediterranean basin. It can grow up to 20 metres tall. The leaves are 4–7 cm long, dark green on the upper side and paler underneath. The fruit, acorns, are 2–3 cm long. This tree is primarily cultivated for its bark, but it is also grown in agroforestry systems due to its ability to withstand fires and regenerate easily. In landscaping, cork oaks are highly valued and popular, as they are evergreen and most specimens have a unique and natural growth structure.
